CHAMBERSBURG — Congressman John Joyce stepped away briefly from his seat representing the 13th District Monday morning to make rounds at Chambersburg Hospital.
Joyce, a dermatologist from Blair County, was right at home during the tour, as he discussed patient care and issues of concern with doctors, administrators and staff throughout the hospital to gain a better understanding of how he will be able to support the local healthcare providers through his work in Washington.
“The way to have the best understanding is to put our boots on the ground,” Joyce explained, as he made his way from the emergency department to the hospital pharmacy. “It gives us insight into what’s going on in each community.”
Monday’s tour at Chambersburg Hospital was one of several similar visits across the 13th District, including Penn State Mont Alto, Fulton County Medical Center, James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, St. Francis University, Somerset Hospital, Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown and Pyramid Health in Altoona.
As a physician, Joyce is very concerned about healthcare.
“Visiting the hospitals within our district has been key,” explained Chad Reichard, district legislative representative for the congressman. “The congressman wants to see how healthcare is delivered here in Franklin County to see how he can be of help on the federal side.”
