DRC: Tax revenues tripled in Q1 2019 in North Kivu

This is the revelation made Thursday, April 25, 2019 in the city of Goma, capital of the province of North Kivu, by the provincial director of this tax administration, Mr. Jean-Rene Nkoy Musi. It was during a press cafe held as part of the day called “Responsible Thursday” that regularly organizes the National Union of the press of Congo (UNPC) / provincial direction of North Kivu. Nkoy Musi told the press the performance of his management, which will need to be strengthened. “The level of realization begins to rise little by little. At the beginning of my mandate, at the end of 2017, I believe even January 2018, we were at a level of realization of more or less one and a half billion Congolese Francs the month. We tried to frame, to respond to the concerns raised here, tried to put bolts on the left to the right, to tighten, to punish, to threaten … That brought us back to what today we are doing on average three billion Congolese francs the month, “he said.

He said this performance comes as economic activity has not changed at all.

” The level of 2018, I believe we still have the same level. But there was a coaching, there was an effort, there was an awareness at the level of the agents and we felt this beginning of improvement. From 1.5 billion in early 2018, now in early 2019, we are at three billion Congolese francs. And the objectives of this month are 4.5 billion Congolese francs. We believe that with the actions we take, the coaching we do, we can get to that level of achievement, “he said.

But compared to the default rate, that is, the number of people who do not pay, the provincial tax director for North Kivu says he is still high. ” We are fighting so that we can make everyone understand that they have to pay their taxes spontaneously ,” he said.
