French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian shares his government’s determination to support the fight against the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo. During an official visit to Kinshasa, Le Drain visited the facilities of the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) where studies are being conducted to fight against various pandemics.
Received by Dr. Jean-Jacques Muyembe, director of INRB, Jean-Yves Le Drian welcomed the response against the Ebola epidemic in the DRC. The minister promises France’s unwavering support to defeat the epidemic, which has already killed around 1,200 people in eastern DRC.
” I welcome the good collaboration that exists between French NGOs and the Congolese authorities, but also the INRB and INSERM Montpellier. All this goes in the direction of a reinforced cooperation of a fight or a common fight against this disease. France will continue to support this fight which is not only the fight of the DRC. It’s also a more general fight. At a time when health issues are absolutely essential. This is happening in an area that is affected by insecurity. This makes intervention and diagnosis even more difficult. That’s why I share France’s support for this response in difficult conditions , “said the French minister after his visit to the INRB.
Dr. Jean-Jacques Muyembe, Director of the INRB, salutes the passage of the French Minister. For him, the visit of France reinforces the determination of his Institute to extend its collaboration with various international governments in the framework of research aimed at overcoming pandemics.
” INRB diversifies its collaboration with different international institutions. There are areas where we do not have to support. We will insist that France really come back to the INRB so that it contributes in a visible way , “says Dr. Jean-Jacques Muyembe.
After meeting President Tshisekedi, Jean-Yves Le Drian is expected at the Center for Advanced Strategy and Defense Studies.
