You can now watch the Irish box office hit “Black 47” on Netflix in Ireland.

Lance Daly’s Irish Famine flick had a spectacular run in Ireland last year grossing over $1 million, the highest grossing Irish film for 2018 and has a 78% approval rating on critical review site Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie follows the story of an Irish Ranger during the worst of the Irish Famine in 1847 and from today viewers in Ireland and the UK can stream it on Netflix.

The young Irish soldier had been fighting for the British Army abroad but abandons his post to reunite with his family. Despite being hardened by his time on the battlefield he is shocked by the horror he discovers in his ravaged homeland.

Feeney, the Ranger, played by James Frecheville, finds his mother starved to death and his brother hanged by the brutal hand of the English. With little else to live for he sets a destructive path to avenge his family.

Frecheville stars alongside Stephen Rea, Barry Keoghan, and Hugo Weaving in the riveting revenge thriller.

The title is taken from the most devastating year of the famine, 1847, which is referred to as “Black ’47”.

To date, “Black 47” has grossed over $2 million in total but flopped in the US.

After three weeks in US circulation in 100 cinemas, the movie grossed just $33,471 and was ranked 54th by Boxofficemojo.com.

It had the strongest opening in Ireland since “Brooklyn”, in 2015.

By comparison, “Brooklyn” grossed over $62 million worldwide.
