BJP president Amit Shah had already campaigned for Rajveer Singh on April 10 in Kasganj in Etah. Now, Modi will hold a public rally in Etah on Saturday before the seat goes to Phase-3 polling on April 23. Etah, which is the birthplace of saint and poet Tulsidas, has been for a while associated with Kalyan Singh.
In 2009, Kalyan Singh won from Etah despite leaving BJP and forming his own Jan Kranti Party. In 2014, his son won here from BJP, with a margin of 2 lakh votes and polling nearly 74,000 more votes than the SP and BSP candidates combined.
This, however, is still of no comfort to Rajveer Singh, who faces Devendra Yadav, the alliance candidate from SP. Singh is invoking Modi in most of his speeches by telling the crowd about the surgical strikes in Balakot and how important it is to make Modi the PM again.
