President Felix Tshisekedi returns to Kinshasa from South Africa


The President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo returned to Kinshasa Sunday at 17:30 from Pretoria, South Africa where he attended Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria, at the investiture ceremony of his southern counterpart -African alongside his peers .

President Félix Tshisekedi was greeted on his way down to N’Djili airport by the Protocol Service, headed by his director, Vital Kamerhe. The Congolese Head of State and his wife, Denise Nyakeru, were among the guests of honor present at the Loftus stadium, which welcomed more than 30,000 people for the occasion.

A strong Congolese community had also made the trip from Pretoria. Some 40 Heads of State and Government had been invited by the South African Head of State. Special arrangements had been made to secure the thousands of South Africans and particularly the ANC members at the stadium.

In his investiture speech, President Cyril Ramaphosa pledged to work for the well-being of his people and to perpetuate the reconciliation left by Nelson Mandela. The Congolese presidential couple was greeted on Friday at the military airport at the Waterkloot military base in Pretoria.

Kinshasa and Pretoria, it is recalled, have excellent relations of friendship and cooperation, which are destined to strengthen further with the advent of the supreme presidency of the 5th President of the DRC. South Africa was among the first to congratulate Felix Tshisekedi, after he was declared the winner of the presidential election of 30 December 2018 in the DRC, despite the reservations made by the African Union and the European Union
