Zac Efron's Ted Bundy movie rated R for disturbing/violent content & more

Netflix has snatched up the distribution rights to EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE the sure-to-be-controversial movie from director Joe Berlinger starring Zac Efron as Ted Bundy. And today we have word via the MPAA that the movie has been slapped with an R-rating for “disturbing/violent content, some sexuality, nudity, and language.”

Considering that this motion picture is – you know – the story of how Ted Bundy managed to kill like a ton of woman, I guess this rating makes more than a bit of sense. Here’s the synopsis for those of you who may have forgotten:

Told through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy’s longtime girlfriend who went years denying the accusations against Bundy, but ultimately turned him into the police. Only nearing his execution, when Bundy began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Kloepfer, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grizzly murders.

EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE is directed by Berlinger (BLAIR WITCH 2) from a script by Michael Werwie and stars John Malkovich, Lily Collins, Kaya Scodelario, Angela Sarafyan, Jeffrey Donovan, Jim Parsons, Metallica’s James Hetfield, and Efron as Ted Bundy.

It’s said that Netflix shelled out a cool $9 million for the rights and that their plan is to give the movie an awards season theatrical run. The film is then expected to debut on the service sometime after that. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear more concrete plans.
